Teeth Whitening At Home (That Actually Works)

Over the last few months I’ve noticed in photos how yellow and dingy my teeth are starting to look. I have always wanted to get my teeth professionally whitened but never took the plunge. I have tried several at home cheaper options like the strips that never stay in place or fit properly, whitening pens that were useless, and even the LED lights but none of them seemed to work. I’m a daily coffee drinker and like to also enjoy a glass of red wine or two and I know over the years these have been my main culprit.

As a mom of a toddler, and expecting our second little one here shortly, I don’t have much time to do things for myself these days. I post pictures daily on my Instagram and blog and I tend to shy away from ones of myself smiling. But I’m over trying to hide my smile and I’m ready to get my confidence back!

I decided to try Smile Brilliant at home custom whitening trays. I really liked how it was custom to you and your specific needs. The first step is to select if you have sensitive teeth or non-sensitive teeth, then select which levels of stain removal you will need. Once you select your sensitivity and stain level and purchase your kit they will send you everything you need.

The kit includes the base, catalyst, mold trays and step by step instructions to create the molds of your top and bottom teeth. You’ll then mail your molds to the lab (postage is covered, and an envelope is included in the kit) for them to create your customized whitening trays. Once their lab receives your impressions, your custom-fitted trays will be created and mailed back to you within 3-5 business days. Your kit will also include the whitening gel and desensitizing gel (if you chose the sensitive teeth kit) to use once you receive your new custom whitening trays.

The first night I tried it I followed the step by step instructions and placed the trays on my teeth. They fit perfectly, like a glove! It states you can wear the trays 45 minutes-3 hours max but I started on the lighter end at 45 minutes because I have super sensitive teeth. This seemed to be a perfect amount of time for me and I just did it in the evening before bed while I caught up on blog work or my tv shows. Then after the time was up, I brushed my teeth normally, did the desensitizing gel for another 15-20 minutes, and then off to bed!

After a a week or two I was in a steady routine and feeling great about my results! I’m glad I took this opportunity to do something for myself I’ve been wanting to do for some time now. It’s definitely a commitment, but totally worth every step!
